Paris im Frühling 1934. Andreas Kartak führt ein Leben als Trinker auf der Straße. Eines Tages leiht ihm ein edelmütiger Herr zweihundert Francs. Joseph Roths letzte, 1939 posthum erschienene Erzählung ist eine Parabel über den Alkoholismus und die Verlorenheit im Exil und trägt autobiographische Züge. Die bildgewaltige Filmadaption des italienischen Regisseurs wurde in Paris in englischer Sprache gedreht und vielfach ausgezeichnet.
Paris, spring 1934. Andreas Kartak spends his life drinking on the streets. One day a gentleman lends him 200 francs, which he is supposed to return to the chapel Ste-Marie des Batignolles. A series of wondrous events takes off.

Joseph Roths last narrative is a parable on alcoholism and solitary exile alike, referring to the authors biography. The visually stunning cinema adaption was filmed in Paris and received numerous awards.
